By TODD HORNE

Have you ever gone to a play or a ball game and had an usher come up to you and ask if you knew where you were seated?

It happens to me all of the time. I always have to look down at my ticket to remind myself, then I usually ask the usher to either show me the way or give me directions.

I never seem to recall what seat I am in or where it is located.

This morning I was reading Ephesians on my brand new iPOD Touch (a Father's Day gift from my beautiful daughter and my beautiful wife - I begged to receive it early. Practical reasons, of course. I am such a kid, sometimes.) Back on point. So I am reading Ephesians, and the Holy Spirit approaches me as I was entering His theater and asks me if I know where I am seated?

He quickly reminded me. Why do I always forget?

It is such a glorious and costly seat. But the truth is I didn't spend a dime for it. God graciously extended to me an invitation a long, long time ago. He kept calling me and calling me to see if I was going to take Him up on his offer. He was always standing at my door. Finally, I invited Him in. He wanted to dine with me. We did. He told me about my seats, then. I was elated to no end.

Why I keep forgetting where those seats are, I don't know.

They happen to be the best seats in the house.

You see, together, you and I are seated in heavenly places in Christ, who has conquered all things -- including death and evil. Right now, as you read this, we believers are seated in Christ at the right hand of God the Father and everything is completely under His subjection.

Think about that for a minute. That's what Ephesians tells us.

God raised me and you up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

Remember this the next time (and there will be a next time) you are tempted by sin or when evil in the voice of reason, or fear, or guilt, or logic, or some other deceptive garb it puts on tries to hang something on you.

You are seated in heavenly places in Christ at the right hand of God Almighty. Right now! Not next week, or in some "afterlife."

You are victorious over Satan right now! You do not have to fight him, Jesus already did that. Use the Word you are in to tell him you know he is defeated and tell him who you are and where you reside, where you are seated. You have the power to withstand him and resist him, and according to the Scriptures he has to flee. He has no authority over you unless you give him place. Read in Ephesians 4 how to avoid giving the devil any room or a foothold in your life.

The choice is yours, not his!

By JUDY HORNE

Many times we Christians go through times of tribulation and testing that do not end in a short time.

We begin to see our life as futile. Each day is the same as the next. We need to be reassured by God Himself that He has not forgotten us and there is a reason for our circumstances. But, often during these times, it seems our prayers hit the ceiling and bounce back. All of our strength is sapped. There is nothing, though, within the Bible that teaches God ever forsakes his children. He will strongly test us and He will allow us to endure much difficulty, but He will never forsake his blood-redeemed children.

The hardest thing we have to do is wait when heaven seems to be silent. God engineers every circumstance in our life and he knows how to tailor circumstances to each individual he tests.

Satan's part in all of this is to get you to lose faith. Stay in belief and God's plan for you will continue. When we are on the back side of the desert, we are not abandoned. God is working it out. He will teach us "His Way."

One thing you will discover is that your needs are not really as substantial as you like to think. Many times we have trouble distinguishing between a need and a want. God, however, does not have that problem.

God gave us the Bible to go to for every occasion and season of our life, and it is not surprising that the Bible is especially helpful to us when we are in the midst of crisis, perceived or real.

The Bible is God's inspired revelation of the origin and destiny of all things. Here heaven is opened, the gates of hell disclosed.

It is the traveler's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword and the Christian's charter.

It is the power of God unto eternal salvation and the source of ever-present help - for body, soul and spirit.

Christ is its grand subject, man's good is its design, and the Glory of God its end.

It is a mine of wealth, source of health and a world of pleasure.

The Bible is God's will or testament to men in all ages, revealing the plan of God for man here and now and in the next life.

It will be opened at the judgment and lasts forever.

It involves the highest responsibility, will reward for the least to the greatest of labor and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents. It includes literature, history, biography, poetry, proverbial sayings, hymns, letters, directions for worship, laws, parables, riddles, allegories, prophecy, and all other forms of human experiences.

It is the only book that reveals the mind of God, state of man and the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the joy of believers.

Its doctrines are holy, its precepts binding, its histories true and God's decisions revealed in it are immutable.

It contains light to direct, spiritual food to sustain and comfort to cheer.

Man should read it to be wise, believe it to be safe and practice it to be holy.

Read it to fill your memory, rule your heart and guide you to righteousness and holiness.

Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully, meditatively, searchingly, devotionally and study it constantly through and through until it becomes a part of your being, generating faith that will move mountains!

By Byron Register

The anxieties and the troubles of this world, the deceitfulness, deception, or pleasure of riches; meaning wealth, abundance of external possessions. The KJV translates "and the lust of other things" but the Greek "καὶ αἱ περὶ τὰ λοιπὰ ἐπιθυμίαι" Lit. and concerning the rest of the desires. It talks about these desires entering in, how do they enter in? They enter in through the mind and when they do they crowd out or choke utterly the divine seed of the word sown in the mind. Then the person becomes unfruitful or metaphorically, not yielding what it ought to yield.

(1 John 2:15 KJV) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

John uses a strong prohibition; "Μὴ ἀγαπᾶτε" Love Not the world! The world here doesn't mean God's creation but the sinful pleasures that are in the world due to sin. Christians are loving the things that are in the world and not the Creator of the world. We are in love with material things and conforming ourselves after the things of the world.

(Romans 12:2 KJV) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

What does Paul mean when he tells us not to be conformed? The Greek word here is suschematizo; not to conform with this age, that is, do not fall in with external and fleeting fashions of this age nor be fashioned to them, but undergo a deep inner change by the qualitative renewing of your mind.

(1 John 2:16 KJV) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

The sinful desires of the flesh, eyes, and the pride of life are not out from (ek) God but they are out from (ek) the world. These sinful desires are not from our heavenly Father they come from a different origin, the world. There is a reason that John gives us such a strong prohibition against these lust.

(Mark 4:19 KJV) And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

James 4:1-10 [Warnings Against Loving The World]

(James 4:1 KJV) From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

Our love for the world brings wars and fighting among us; Let's look closer at this Scripture the word "whence" means of place, from what place, of origin of source, or from what author or giver. So what source does these fightings come from? We know by God's Word that He doesn't bring strife or confusion among His children. This love for the world causes fights because of our desires for pleasure, lust, enjoyment, or desires for pleasure it is not from God. These lusts war in our members like a soldier would fight or strategize against his enemy.

(James 4:2 KJV) Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

James tells us the reason we don't have answers to our prayers, "ye lust, and have not:" we are lusting after the wrong things we kill [Lit. to commit murder] and we desire or we are filled with jealousy are to burn with zeal; to be heated or to boil with envy, hatred, or anger. We can't obtain by this kind of behavior because it is against the will of God, James puts it simply, "ye have not, because ye ask not."

(James 4:3 KJV) Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

James tells us the reason we don't receive he says, "ye ask amiss" this comes from the Greek word, "kakos"; badly, wrongly, wickedly, sick; to speak ill of, revile, one, or with bad intent. A lot of times because of our love for the world we tend to ask God for things of this world and our intentions are not for God's glory or for the use of the ministry but for the fulfillment of our own desires. We ask for these things so that we may consume or waste "it" upon our own lusts.

(James 4:4 KJV) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Because of a love for the world James calls them adulterers he goes on to say don't you know that if anyone becomes a friend to the world then they are an enmity with God. The last part of this verse is what I find to be interesting, "whosoever therefore will be a friend to the world is the enemy of God." This comes from the Greek word, kathistemi, and here it is in the third person and it means that God will appoint, ordain, or make the person who is a friend of the world His enemy, Do you want to be God's enemy? So what's is the way to stay God's friend and not His enemy?

(James 4:7 KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Submit, this word is an act of submission to be obedient to God and then we must do one more thing, resist the devil. We must set ourselves against, oppose, withstand, and resist the devil, this shows us that the source of our love for the world's sinful desires is Satan, the god of this world. When we resist the devil he will flee from us, this word flee means he will escape, avoid, disappear, flee from fear or threatening danger. All we have to do is submit to God and resist the devil and he will run from us, or the Holy Spirit that is in us, as in terror because he knows who we belong to because our Father can beat him up!!

What really happened in the Garden of Gethsemane? Was this just a resting stop on the way to the Cross? Or was something else going on there? Why did nine disciples outside the area of action fall asleep as well as the three disciples, Peter, James and John, who accompanied Jesus further into the Garden? What was going on in this place that the very closest disciples Jesus had, the inner circle, could not resist and allow them to minister to their Lord at the moment of His greatest challenge? And just what was this greatest challenge that Jesus faced, greater than even the challenge of the Cross? Have you ever asked yourselves these questions as you read about the events in that garden of old? Although all four Gospels have a reference to Gethsemane, only Matthew and Mark identify the garden by name. We will look at Matthew’s account first for it seems to be the most complete in the details.

“Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, my soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.” (Matt 26:36-46, KJV)

By looking at Luke’s account, we pick up some more detail “And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the Mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. And when he was at the place, he said unto them, pray that ye enter not into temptation. And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, And said unto them, Why sleep ye? Rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. (Luke 22:39-46, KJV). Now by prayerfully reading both Matthew’s account and Luke’s account, we can gain some much-needed insight into the actual situation Jesus encountered in the Garden of Gethsemane.

First, Matthew has Jesus taking His disciples into the Garden of Gethsemane, depositing eight of them (Judas was meeting with the religious leaders and receiving the price of a slave [30 pieces of silver] for his betrayal) near the entrance to the garden with instructions to sit there while He went and prayed further into the garden. Jesus then took the inner circle, Peter James and John with Him farther into the garden “and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, my soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt” (Matt. 26:36-38, KJV). Why would the soul of Jesus be exceedingly sorrowful, even unto death? And was this the death of the Cross, or by some other means? Luke helps out here by telling us “there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (Luke 22:43-44, KJV). Notice that Jesus was in great agony and He was sweating blood. This condition (hematradosis) is caused when the small blood vessels in the face, particularly in the forehead, burst and allows the blood they were carrying to mingle with the sweat forming on their brow. I heard a medical doctor talking about this condition once. He stated that in all of his years of medical practice, he had only seen two cases of a patient “sweating blood”. In both instances, it was in an emergency room at the hospital. Both patients had been in a terrible accident, which caused extreme stress to their body. Both patients were unconscious during the time they were “sweating blood”, and both patients died without ever regaining consciousness. Their bodies were in such deep shock that they never came out of the shock their bodies were suffering.

Doesn’t this sound like what Jesus was going through, when He said in Matthew “my soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even unto death” (v.38)? Then, at this point in the narrative Luke tells us that an angel from Heaven began to strengthen him. What would have happened to the physical body of Jesus if the angel were not there to strengthen Him? Suppose that it would have reacted as other physical bodies have reacted and just shut down for the trauma was too great for the physical body to handle? But Jesus could not die in that garden; He had to physically die on the cross to pay our sin debt. No wonder there was an angel from Heaven to strengthen Him!

So what was the job of the three disciples who accompanied Jesus into the garden? In Matthew, Jesus went back to the three disciples that were with Him in the garden proper. “And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matt 26:40-41, KJV). Jesus “went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done” (v.42). And a third time, Jesus prayed the same prayer, “O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done” (v. 44). Three times now, Jesus has pleaded with His Father to let the cup He is about to drink pass from Him, however it is not His will he seeks fulfilled, but His Father’s will. Now what was the role of the three disciples there in the garden with Jesus? They were there to “watch and pray”, in other words, they were to be intercessors for Jesus during His darkest hour and they utterly failed because they were sleeping, not once, but three times. Instead of the intercessory prayer of His closest disciples sustaining Him in the agony within the garden, He had an angel from Heaven to strengthen Him because the disciples were simply not up to the task.

But why would the disciples not be up to the task? Because there was a battle raging in that garden that fateful night which the disciples were not equipped to handle. What battle was there? After all the only people present were the disciples and Jesus who was in prayer to His Father. And this is the point that usually escapes us when we read about Jesus’ experiences in the Garden of Gethsemane. Up to this point in the life of Jesus, He had not sinned once, even though sorely tempted by the devil on many occasions. Now, here in the Garden of Gethsemane, the greatest temptation in the life of Jesus was unfolding. If Jesus were to refuse to follow the plan for the salvation of men laid down from before the foundations of the world were laid, then Jesus would be in disobedience to His Father just as surely as Adam was when he ate the forbidden fruit. So just what was the part of the salvation plan that would cause Jesus such great agony that blood would actually drip from His forehead and He would plead with His Father three times to take this cup away from Him and three times end His prayer each time by telling His Father that it was not the will of Jesus which mattered, it was the Father’s will that must be done. Had Jesus refused to drink from the cup the Father was offering, then Jesus would have sinned and could never have paid our sin debt for us.

Don’t you know that Satan was working overtime in the garden to cause Jesus to refuse His Father’s cup? For then, the sinless Lamb of God would have at least one sin of His own and that one sin would hav3e prevented Jesus from paying our sin debt. So what was this terrible thing that was in the Father’s cup, which Jesus would drink, that would cause such tremendous trauma in the body of Jesus that He would actually sweat blood? To understand this, you must understand what the wages of sin are. The actual wages of sin, the just payment for the sin, is to be totally separated from a holy God, for a holy God cannot look upon nor tolerate sin in any form. From the very beginning, the Trinity existed as an entity; no person of the Trinity had ever been separated from the others in their entire existence. Not only that, but there was no precedent established to show that upon separation of one member of the Trinity, that member could again join the other two and be just as they were before the separation. This had never been done before, new ground was being plowed.

Yet, the very cup that Jesus was being offered by His Father was to be separated from Him for the first time in all of eternity. As Paul said to the Corinthian church “for he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Cor. 5:21, KJV). Jesus, being made sin for us, would be totally separated from His Father and the Holy Spirit, for they could not look upon Jesus in the sinful state He would be in to pay our sin debt. This is why Jesus cried from the cross, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matt 27:46). It was the separation from the Trinity that was the true payment for our sins. In this way, a just God would have the payment justice demanded, separation from God, or spiritual death. However, since Jesus had no sin of His own that would cause a separation from God, i.e. a spiritual death; when He had paid our sin debt by having our sin separate Him from the Trinity, then He would be free to come up out of Hell and rejoin the Trinity once more in Heaven. This is why Satan tried so hard in the Garden of Gethsemane to convince Jesus that He really didn’t want to be separated from the Trinity and why Jesus sought three times for the Father to remove the cup which would require Jesus to be totally separated from the Trinity, not only separated, but be actually in Hell, a place no one had ever escaped from in all eternity. What a battle that was between Jesus and Satan there in that garden! Praise be to God, Jesus persevered. Our salvation was assured because Jesus chose to be obedient to His Father rather than insist on having His own way. The garden was the last place before the cross itself where Satan could try to tempt Jesus into sinning. The heavy drama unfolding in the garden that night was what acted like a drug on the disciples and caused them to sleep rather than intercede for Jesus as He wanted. Surely, as Jesus said, “the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matt 26:41).

I have heard much discussion on the topic of Christian men and pornography addiction. I am sure there are many books and publications on the subject, yet the problem seems to be getting worse instead of better. I have discussed this subject with many Christian men that suffer from this problem and after much study in the word of God and of the American psyche I feel I have something to offer on the subject in hopes that this article may help someone out there to break this cycle of addiction.
As a young man my father had thousands of pornographic magazines in our house. They were under every bed, in every bathroom and even in the living room. They were in plain view for all to see. My father was not a Christian at the time, but his father was the greatest example of a Christian man I ever knew. Every male friend I had had a father that had pornographic material in their home too. It seemed very normal because no one ever told me this was wrong, yet somewhere deep in my heart I knew it was. Let me clarify the word wrong; I mean not in line with God’s thinking. For many years I had these images burned into my memory. I had seen literally thousands of these pictures and read many of the articles associated with them. I can’t remember any particular memory or harm associated with my exposure to this media.
One thing that always struck me as odd was that women seemed to always be the sex that was exploited in these pictures. I often wondered how many of these women were forced into this life style or by way of there circumstances were felt this was a way to make a living. What ever the reason I am sure that millions of women have suffered greatly because of this multi billion dollar industry.

If you are a Christian man hooked on porn please keep reading. You are not a bad or evil person. You’ve made the mistake of believing a lie and hopefully after reading this you will have the mental process and ability to stop.
In my book Virtues for a Crazy World there is part of a chapter on Temperance that talks about alcoholism which I feel is appropriate to include a part of it here. I’ll explain why later.
(Jesus himself said, “Do not lie with the drunkard least the master of the house comes and finds you sleeping.” I love math. I actually won the national math contest in the tenth grade. Math is really very simple. One plus one equals two. If you eliminate any part of the equation you will not arrive at the intended sum. Let’s apply that line of thought to drinking. How can someone avoid the pitfalls of drinking? A person drives home from work and stops off at the pub, (part one of the equation.) Their buddies prompt them to have one drink; after all it can’t hurt anything. They do, (part two of the equation.) They have more than one, as usual; get drunk, drive home and start a fight with their loved ones, (the sum.) Again, if we eliminate any part of the equation, we will not arrive at the sum. Get it? Pretty simple, huh? I’ve heard that scientist have discovered a gene that predisposes a person to be an alcoholic. Huh, sounds pretty scientific, doesn’t it? Not really. I have the answer to that one too. Don’t pick up the bottle and the gene will never be turned on! I have seen alcohol turn good honest men of all colors into immoral, unmanly, profane idiots. These are the same men who without alcohol in their system are normally good, wholesome fathers, husbands, and workers. Again, a little alcohol in moderation is okay. Even Jesus said; “to take a little wine for the belly.” Food or liquor and most things in life in moderation are okay. If a man or woman allows himself or herself to be ruled by alcohol, that person is weak, both in willpower and in spirit, but how can they avoid it. Huh? Let’s see, oh, I have it. Don’t buy it, don’t hang out in bars, and don’t hang out with others that do. Duh! For those of you not up on today’s lingo, duh means of course, stupid, no brainer, etc. I know I sound harsh, but alcoholism is a harsh subject. Millions of lives every day are destroyed, interrupted or changed forever by the effects of alcohol and overeating contributes to most of our social physical problems. Notice, I said the effects of alcohol, not alcohol itself. Again, if you don’t’ pick up the bottle, then the alcohol can’t get to your mouth, stomach and yea, your brain.)
I mentioned the above because it includes a simple formula that if followed can work to help anyone avoid almost any kind of temptation. We will talk more about this later.
Let’s go back to the first question any of us ask ourselves when we first find ourselves in a mess such as an addiction. HOW DID I GET HERE? Good question isn’t it? I’m a Christian. I shouldn’t be doing such things. Why can’t I stop? Does this mean I don’t love God? Am I a bad person? Am I perverted? What if someone finds out? What would my wife think? What would my pastor and church think? How do I get out of this with my life in tact? I’m sure there are many other questions that may be asked as well, but notice the first word of each question; why?
Here’s the answer. Are you ready? You are human. Yes, that’s the answer. You, me and every other person that ever walked on this ball of mud is human and because we are human we sin. It’s that simple. Don’t stop reading. There’s much more I promise. Now, back to the why question. Let’s turn to God’s word for the answer.
Jas 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Jas 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Now don’t get squeamish because I used the word lust. This word can pertain to anything. A person can lust after wealth, health, money, opposite sex, anything. Each person is different and different things attract different people. Here’s the key to this whole thing. Satan knows what you like. He knows what entices you. He knows what you lust for. He knows it better than you do. In fact you yourself will deny the very affinity you have for something and this is where satan has you. He will not deny it. He will throw it in your face every chance he gets.
I know a man that is the salt of the earth. There is nothing that can shake his faith. He knows the scripture and I am for sure he loves the Lord with all his might. There is no place in his life that satan can attack him, except for one and that is internet pornography. He has confided in me and asked me to be his accountability partner. I’ll talk about that later also. He does not spend hours and days on the internet looking at porn. No, he even goes out of his way to avoid getting on the net because he knows that this is dangerous for him. It only happens occasionally when he has been doing well for long periods of time and he finds himself working on the net with no intention or thought of looking at porn; then some little spam pop-up or advertisement will shoot a thought or suggestion into his mind and before he knows it he finds himself on a porn site. He has told me how repulsed he is at himself and he really does not know how he arrives at this place. He is sickened by it and finds himself hurt, depressed and turning his face away from God in embarrassment and shame.
This is exactly the place satan wants you at. (I know satan should be capitilized, but I refuse to give him any glory whatsoever, so I don’t) He wants you to feel THAT YOU CAN’T TURN TO GOD AND ASK FORGIVENESS. This is where he can do the most damage because when you feel that God is ashamed of you and won’t listen to you, then you have already cut yourself off from God. We have to go to scripture again for insight.
Ro 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

This is the key to Christianity. You and I as forgiven Christians are free from the guilt that the law demands. We are not under any law. We live in the pure undeserving love and grace and forgiveness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the Son of God Himself. For some strange reason we still believe the lie that we have got to be perfect for God to love and forgive us. The truth is He loved us before we were even born or thought of by our families. I know this because in the book of Genesis God already had a plan of salvation. Let’s look at this.
Ge 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

This is a prophecy of when Jesus would be wounded (shalt bruise his heel) by dying on the cross for the sins of all mankind, but would rise again from the dead and conquer sin and death (it shall bruise thy head, (that’s satan’s head). God was thinking of you even then, so He loved you before anyone knew you, but He knew and loved you even then.
The following is my favorite scripture and when I discovered what it was really saying it was the turning point and the greatest faith building moment in my Christian life.
Mt 7:9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or what man is there of you, who, if his son shall ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone;
Mt 7:10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? or if he shall ask for a fish, will give him a serpent?
Mt 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them

I had read this scripture many times but never really understood its full meaning until about seven years ago. I know how much I love my own children and I would not hesitate to give my life for them if need be. So, this being the case and me being evil and sinful and still love my children so much and would do anything and give anything to them; and God who’s love and grace is so far greater than the best person that ever lived and He has called me His child because Jesus has saved me and covered me with His blood; how could He ever turn me away when I come to Him for any and every reason? I know that was a long sentence and difficult to read, but It all had to go together. When my children do something wrong and hide it from me I always know something is wrong. The way they act toward me is different than when they are doing right. They avoid eye contact and close conversations. When we sin against God we do the same thing. We pray less or not at all and we avoid closeness with Him afraid He will find out. Guess what, HE ALREADY KNOWS. We are so foolish. We act just like little children. He knows that and in His eyes we are. I wish I could explain His unfathomable and endless love and mercy, but I can’t. I can give you a glimpse of it. It is called the cross. Take a moment and close your eyes. [Try to see Jesus caring the cross to Golgotha. See the pain and anguish and the blood on His face. Watch as the Roman soldiers beat the nails into His hands and feet. Hear His anguish as they hoist him high into the air.] Got it? That’s how much He loves you. So, why would He ever turn you away?
I’ve said all this to say this. God does not un-love you because you sin. Do you stop loving your children for messing up? Of course not, neither does He. There is one more truth I would like to share. It is not sin that sends you to hell. Also, it is not your good works that sends you to heaven. Read the following.
Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. He that believeth on him is not judged: he that believeth not hath been judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.

So, now we know that God will not turn us away and we are saved because we believe in Him. We can move forward and talk about this thing called pornography.
Pornography has been around every since photographs have. We can go back further still and all through history man has painted nudes. Anyone can go to most any art museum and view hundreds and thousands of nude or partially nude paintings by many well know painters. Also, there are tens of thousands of nude statues that are available for viewing. Do we call this porn? Of course not, this is art. In its truest form the human body is a most beautiful subject. Magazines and newspapers today are full of partially nude models for anyone to see. This is not porn; it is advertisement.
When does it become pornography? In my opinion it becomes porn when the photograph or video is made for the sole purpose of displaying the human form and the sexual interactions between people as a form of entertainment. Don’t get me wrong. I think there is way to much flesh in advertisement. I am just trying to establish a base from which we can work from.
In the beginning Adam and Eve were naked and did not think anything about it.

Ge 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

It was not until they sinned that they were ashamed of their nakedness.
Ge 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
EBD GEN MH-COM NTB SBD STR TTT
Ge 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And they heard the voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah God amongst the trees of the garden.
The same is true about sex. Sex in its original form was pure and beautiful as long as it was confined to a husband and a wife as God intended. When I take a shower and walk into the bedroom to dress I am not ashamed to walk in front of my wife in my birthday suit, but I would be mortified if anyone else in the world saw me. So, the human body and human sexuality are God designed, God blessed and God intended in their designed form.
This is where pornography comes in. It is the human form and human sexuality outside of its intended form. This is why it is wrong in Gods eyes. It is not what He intended it to be. This is where satan comes in. He has always been an imitator of God. He can’t be God so he imitates God and God’s design and creation in perverted forms. Marriage was designed by God for an intended purpose. Let’s look at the word again.
Ge 2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Ge 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

When a man and a woman marry they are no longer separate in any way. They are now one flesh. This is an important fact in our discussion because if a man sins by looking at porn, then he has stepped outside of Gods intended use of the human form and sexuality. The man has done this and hid it from his wife. Since the two are one flesh then he has sinned against himself and his wife because she is unaware of it. You ask, what if the man is not married? That is simple to answer; he is sinning against himself and God, so don’t think it is okay just because you are not married. I will write about the single man that his addicted to porn later. Right now, I want to concentrate on the married man because this is where I see the most damage being done in the church.
Let’s review a moment. Satan knows what attracts us and he uses it against us. God loves us and will never turn us, His children away. We are saved by grace not by good works. God created sex to be a wonderful part of marriage. Man and wife are one flesh and can’t be separated in any way. Porn is a sin because it is a perverted effort by satan to imitate God’s original creation. Any questions? Good, we can move on.
I want to say I am not a counselor nor do I have a degree in this field. I am simply Christian man that has studied the Bible for most of my adult life and has watched and helped many people get through many difficult situations. My fields of study and degrees are in science and in medicine. I deal with people on a social level daily. I see the misery and hopelessness that porn, drugs, alcohol, infidelity, anger, hate and many other sins cause on a daily basis and I want to help.
Why are we as men attracted to pornography? Well, first of all men are very visual beings. It’s in the seeing or looking that we enjoy. So, naturally it is our eyes that lead us astray. When I was a child there were only magazines and a few peep shows that contained porn. Even then it was mostly what is called soft-core porn. Most of what I say as a child was simply naked pictures. Today porn is plastered everywhere we look. It is on TV, in magazines and on the world wide internet. It is so easily accessible and it has reached a different level. We call it hard-core porn and there are even violent aspects of porn that contain abuse, rape and even death.
I think like most sin it begins quite innocently. We see something and since our society has accepted it we don’t think much about it. When I was young if your mother caught you with a nudy-book you got a whipping and she threw it away. End of story. It is very natural for a young boy to want to see the female form. God made the female form to attract the male of the species. This is true in the animal kingdom as well. It is perfectly natural. God did however gives us a few rules to follow.

I know this is very redundant but I want to get the point across. Also, Jesus said this:
Mt 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. but I say unto you, that every one that looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

I can’t think of any other reason for a man to look at a picture or video of a naked woman other than to lust after her. I’d like to mention something very important here. When you look at a picture of another woman and lust after her you are setting a barrier in your mind that this woman is worth desiring and your wife is not. You are robbing your wife of your desires and focus. Remember when you first met, you thought she was sexy and desirable. You might say she doesn’t look as good anymore. Well, I have news for you, neither do you. Sure she has changed over the years; she has sacrificed her body giving you children and taking care of you and your needs. Each time you turn your desires and lust toward another woman or even a picture or video you are stealing from your wife. She deserves your attention and lust. She deserves your advances and longing gazes. She deserves you and all your attention. Try remembering how she used to look and feel in your arms. Talk to her the way you used to when you were trying to seduce her. She is the same person she has always been. Okay, back to where we were. So the first step is we are drawn away or enticed by our own lust and desires to LOOK at something. Here is where we should be able to stop. All sin starts with a thought. We can’t stop the thought but we can and should stop the thought process. The problem is most of us can’t stop that’s why we sin. We know what we should do but don’t. Paul said it this way:
Ro 7:13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate, that I do.
Ro 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. But if what I would not, that I do, I consent unto the law that it is good.
EBD COF GEN JD MH-COM NTB PNT SCO STR TTT
Ro 7:15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

What I hate, that I do. Wow! Paul, the awesome man of God said that. Where does that leave you and me? I don’t think it is an accident that God allowed this to be in the Bible that we read today. God gives us many examples of Godly men that sin and failed. David was know as a man after God’s own heart, yet he had one of the biggest falls and committed one of the biggest sins of all (in mans eyes) and it all started with watching a woman (that was not his wife) take a bath.
I think we have established that it is very difficult to not sin. It is in our very nature since Adam messed up. One might say, yea, but since we are born again, we should not continue to sin. That is correct, but the key words are (should not). We should not over eat, over drink, over spend, and so on and so on, but we do. Getting saved does change us but it is only the beginning of changing our minds and our habits. Our soul is set free instantly and we are forever Gods. Noting can take us out of His hands.
Ro 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
EBD COF JD MH-COM NTB SCO SBD STR TTT
Ro 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We are His. That is sealed in heaven. But what we are not is we are not perfect. We still have the same old bodies and brains. Both are now under the thought process of the Holy Spirit if we let them. It’s when we don’t allow the Spirit to rule our lives, mind and bodies that we mess up. We now have a desire to do right, but still do wrong occasionally. How do we fix this? Let’s look.
Ro 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Notice the word TRANSFORMED. This word implies that we need to change, that we are not finished and need finishing. So, salvation is the end for the soul but the beginning for our minds and bodies. So, don’t think it strange that you still want to sin.
How do we transform our minds? We do this by filling our eyes and ears with the word of God. We read and study the word of God on a daily basis. We surround ourselves with other Christians that are also trying to do right. And, we don’t look at and fill our eyes and ears with the old stuff we used to fill it with. It is a process that for most of us takes many years and even then we still need work.
Remember earlier I said that there was a formula that can help us not to fall into the old pattern of sin. One plus one equals two. If we remove any part of an equation we will not arrive at the sum. It is true that the internet is a very important part of our daily business and private lives. It seems we can’t get along without it or can we? I seem to remember doing very well without the internet, the TV, video games, x-box, play station one and two. We spent a great deal of time reading, playing building and inventing things. Now, most everyone is glued in front of some kind of plasma screen. They tell us we need to stay connected via the cell phone and instant messenger and two way video calling and internet services. Everywhere you look someone is talking on a cell phone. Personally, I hate the blasted thing, but my household has four cells and four laptops. It’s just the way it is. So, if we have to have the technology, how can we avoid the porn on the technology? There is no acceptable one easy answer. There is an answer, but it is not so easy. Let’s concentrate on the net for a moment because it seems to be the easiest most unnoticeable way for a man to look at porn without anyone knowing.
The first, most sensible thought that comes to mind is if you don’t have to have the internet for business then get rid of it. It cost too much and produces nothing. Yes it makes some things easier, like buying, selling, finding movies and restaurants, oh and LOOKING AT PORN! It does seem very necessary for most of life’s daily goings on here in the good old US of A. Most work places now have internet porn filters in place to help deter the stolen peak and nakedness. There was a well respected man in my church that recently was passed over for a promotion because his boss found out that he had been looking at porn on his office terminal. It was devastating to him and his family when the truth came out. Is he a bad man? No, he has believed a lie and it lead to sin. That’s all plain and simple. What about the rest of the media porn is attached too? We can’t get rid of all of it can we? The answer must lie in our ability not to go there or look at it. But, how???????
The reality of the situation is that porn is here to stay. It’s everywhere and readily available. I mentioned earlier that all willful sin starts with a thought. Porn starts with a thought and or a look. I don’t know any man that brags about being hooked on porn. Mostly, they do it in secret and go to great links to hide the fact. They know or feel it is wrong so they conceal it. This is the other most important thing satan uses against us as men. We are strong and prideful and we think it is better to keep it all to ourselves and as long as no one knows about it we can work it out in time. This is a great lie and satan uses it to the uttermost. I’m going to tell you the first secret to helping you stop looking at porn. TELL SOMEONE. Find a Christian man that you trust without fail and ask him to be an accountability partner. I don’t mean just anyone. He must be someone that you know will not tell others and will on a daily basis check on you to see if you are avoiding pornography. I know this is hard to understand, but trust me it is the first and most important thing you must do if you want to be the man God wants and knows you to be.
Jas 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working.

Notice the second version of the above scripture. “Confess your sins and pray for one another.” As you can see this is not a new idea and it does work. There is almost something magical, no spiritual to confessing sin. Once you do a huge burden or cloud is lifted from your shoulders. You are not alone anymore. You know have a brother to help you carry this burden and support you in the struggle.
Pr 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Iron sharpeneth iron; So a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

My best friend is Paul M. He is the greatest man I know and I can and do tell him anything and he tells me anything. What I said above is so true. To have a friend that you can go to at anytime and talk about anything is a great gift. If you don’t have someone that you can share with, then go to your pastor and confide in him. There is one extra point I’d like to mention here. Men, don’t talk your problems over with a woman unless it is your wife. Most of you will probably find it very difficult to talk to your wife at this point and I don’t blame you. In fact, unless your wife is your ultimate best friend, I suggest finding another man to talk to about this.
The next thing to mention here is avoid getting on the net when you are alone. This point takes some will power. If you have a computer in your office make sure the screen is facing the door so it can be seen by anyone walking by or entering the room. If your problem is at home, then don’t stay home alone. Don’t say to your self that I can handle it; I’ll just stay off the computer. Satan is much stronger than you are and you will loose the battle. The temptation starts out innocently as you are just looking at normal things on the net, and then before you know it, you are where you did not want to be. Am I right? Be honest. You have to be honest if you want to get out of this pattern of sin.
Here is something I learned recently. Men are very competitive, right?
Right. A good idea when facing sin is to realize that satan wants you to do something against your will. Each time you fall for his lies you are the looser. So, get mad when you are tempted and say out loud; satan I resist you and I am not going to fall for this again. Make it a competition and you be the winner.
Now, the best for last.
Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Satan can only harm you if you let him. Use the word of God, the sword of the spirit. Remember what Jesus said: “Get behind me satan.” Command him in the name of Jesus to leave. Tell him aloud: I resist you satan; you must flee from me according to the word of God. This is your most powerful weapon along with a friend you can confide in.
It all starts with a desire to stop what you are doing. I know you want to quit because you are reading this. Remember at the beginning I talked about a formula for stopping sin. Here it is. One plus one equals two. Eliminate any part of an equation and you will not arrive at the sum. So, avoid putting yourself in a bad situation, avoid being alone with your computer, confess to a friend, get mad at satan for tempting you, speak to him with the authority of the word of God and resist him and he will flee.
I don’t pretend to think that this will be easy, but if you follow these guidelines I promise it will be easier to avoid and if you mess up, remember this; God love you, you are His child and He will never turn you away, no matter what you do. He purchased you with the blood of His only son and in no way will ever turn you away. He loves you more than anything else in creation. Don’t listen to the lies of the devil about any kind of sin. I leave you with this great quote I heard from a great man. “The grass may be greener on the other side, but you still have to cut it.”

God Bless You.

By Linda C. Dipman

Quickly we ran stacking sand bag after sand bag around our house hoping and praying that we would detour the approaching flood! The rain once again began coming down in sheets of penetrating force meant to power its way through our temporary barrier. I smiled as the sand wall held, keeping the inside of our house dry, only to find out an instant later that our sump pump failed in the basement. My smile quickly faded and my eyes flooded with tears as I realized that our entire finished basement was under water.

Just a week before when the rain began to fall I discovered that our new house was built in a flood zone! Our insurance didn't cover floods and our basement would have to be gutted and redone! It would cost thousands of dollars!

The magnitude of the situation caused my nerves to frazzle and my emotions to explode in ups and downs on how I was ever going to get this project accomplished! My son's room was in the basement and now he had no where to sleep. The few pieces of furniture that were saved were in the living room along with my son's bed. The house was in such disarray I wanted to pull out my hair.

We had moved to our new house just one year before happy that we would have to do very little fixing up, but now everything had changed. Our home business was growing by leaps and bounds. The phone was ringing off the wall and new employees needed to be hired and trained for our expanding business.

The pressure was so great that I found myself lashing out at my children and my husband and secretly plotting to jump in my car and leave everything behind. In desperation I went to a doctor and he put me on two antidepressants, but it wasn't making me feel any better.

We stopped going to church because we were working all of the time to keep up with the business and make the necessary repairs to our basement. I stopped praying except for emergencies and reading my Bible, "Well, there just wasn't any time!"

My husband had a child from a former marriage and this child was disruptive. Every time it was time for visitation I prepared myself for a fight. It wasn't just the problems with his daughter it was her mother and her husband too. They demanded that we give in and buy anything they needed for her because we had more money than them. All I could think about was we already paid child support and she should buy these things from that money.

To make my frustration even worse my husband gave into all of their demands and this caused a serious rift in our marriage. I kept telling him to stand up to his daughter and ex-wife. But no matter what I said he wouldn't listen! He loved his daughter and he wanted a relationship with her and he felt he had no choice but to give them what they wanted.

And then it happened, a man who I met through our business began to show me some attention. He was thoughtful as he listened to my troubles. He smiled and invited me to take a ride on his motorcycle. He would call me on my phone and encourage me. I began to think of him as my friend and I looked forward to his calls and text messages.

I started blocking the bad from my mind and entertaining a brand new life with my motorcycle man. He didn't have any children, because he had never been married. Sure he told me he had been in jail for a few years, but he was a changed man and he wanted a wife and family.

Every time I thought of him it seemed easy, but when I thought about my own life it was a disaster. I began to pull even more away from my husband and family. I treated everyone badly and I left most of the phone calls over our business and the work for my husband to manage. All I could think about was myself and how horrible my life had become.

It amazes me how easily good people can be deceived because of the traumas everyone faces in the world game of life. This is the reason it is so important that we understand why bad things happen to people and how to avoid a massive disaster in the making. Our fight in this world is not against flesh and blood, but against Satan.

Ephesians 6:12, "For we are not fighting against human beings but against the wicked spiritual forces in the heavenly world, the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark age."

Natural disasters happen because Satan has the power to create havoc in our world. Jesus came to open our eyes to the devil's attacks. He came to teach us to be patient when we are forced to rebuild after a flood. He heals our broken hearts and gives us supernatural strength so we can stand up while we put our lives back together with joy and peace. He tells us in the "Lord's Prayer" how to pray so we can win the fight against Satan's evil tricks.

Matthew 6: 13, "Do not bring us to hard testing, but keep us safe from the Evil One."

Satan will take a disaster and overwhelm us to the point of paralyzing our ability to function. He will tell us over and over again that we have too much to handle. He is a constant voice of deceit that takes place in the battle field of our mind. A war that pits good against evil by taking our weak human thinking and making us believe that our suffering is overwhelming and impossible to overcome.

This is the reason why there are twenty million people depressed in the United States alone. When we don't understand that the battle of good versus evil takes place within our minds we are subject to how the world believes. Satan is the god of this world and his answer for people who are under mental fatigue from anxiety is medication. He tells us to think only of ourselves and numb the reality of our lives with alcohol and drugs.

Satan wants to destroy families. He wants a second marriage to fail because of complications with children from other relationships. He wants us to take our frustrations out on them and harbor grudges against the other parents. He wants to make us blame our mates so we will hate instead of love our families. Jesus tells us to forgive as many as seventy times seven.

Matthew 6: 12, "Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us."

Satan is so evil that he will provide us ways to escape, which really are meant to make our lives even worse. This is the reason why many husbands and wives commit adultery when they are faced with a hard problem. They reach out to another person instead of Jesus for comfort and become lured away and trapped by compounding a situation into a substantial problem evolving a messy breakup that only leads to more frustration!

James 1: 12-15, "Happy is the person who remains faithful under trials, because when he succeeds in passing such a test, he will receive as his reward the life which God has promised to those who love him. If a person is tempted by such trials, he must not say, 'This temptation comes from God.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But a person is tempted when he is drawn away and trapped by his own evil desire. Then his evil desire conceives and gives birth to sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death."

This is the reason why it is so easy for Satan to deceive people into believing that God caused a natural disaster. The media proclaims when a disaster occurs that it is an "Act of God". This simply is not true, God cannot commit evil. But Satan has the freedom to cause evil. He has the ability to tempt a person. He is the great deceiver, who came to bring every evil problem that can destroy people's lives.

1 Corinthians 10: 13, "Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out."

I gave my pastor a hug as he explained why all these bad things were occurring in my life. I knew Satan was a terrible force against Christians but I had no idea how easily he could persuade me to hate instead of love my family. I really did love my husband and his daughter. Just acknowledging this helped me to feel stronger.

As I left pastor Bill's office he gave me one final instruction. Testing can either make you stronger or it can corrupt your life and make it worse. I heeded his warning and became determined to fight against Satan's attacks that were meant to destroy my life!
